Plymouth Township Man Reports Fraudulent Tax Return

The following information was provided by Plymouth Township Police. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Plymouth Township Police met Feb. 8 with a man who reported being told by H&R Block that someone had already e-filed his tax return using his social security number, according to a police report.

The man told police he was attempting to file his taxes online through H&R Block, when he was told his social security number had already been used. The man told police he reported the incident to the Internal Revenue Service, who advised him his return already was flagged as suspicious and to file a police report.

The man told police the IRS informed him the investigation could take up to 180 days and that he doesn’t know who might have fraudulently filed his taxes.

The man told police he had been a victim of identity theft in the past and had flagged his name with the Credit Bureau.
