The 37th annual Greater Rochester Open tennis tournament drew 129 players—46 adults and 83 juniors—to the courts at Rochester Municipal Park from July 24-31.
In the junior events, Nick Klak and Nicholas Ang each won two events. Klang repeated as the 14 singles champion and added the 14 doubles title this year, according to tournament director Jerry Murphy, who also coaches varsity tennis at Rochester High School. Ang, who won the 16 singles and 18 doubles last year repeated as 18 doubles winner and also moved up to win the 18 singles title.
In the adult events, the Hayner brothers dominated the action, with Pat Hayner winning his 13th and 14th Great Rochester Open titles to become the winningest player in the tournament's history. His brother, Lew, won the M50S event and added a title in the Senior Men's Doubles event in its inaugural year, according to Murphy.
"Overall, it was another enjoyable tournament in the park in Downtown Rochester," Murphy said in an email. "We'll be back next year."
