3 Men Charged In Oakland County 'Gang-Related' Shooting: Prosecutors

Prosecutors said the three men were filming a music video when a fight broke out with a rival gang member.

PONTIAC, MI — Three men are facing charges in connection with a "gang-related" shooting at an Oakland County gas station last month, prosecutors said.

The shooting happened at a Pontiac gas station on July 28, prosecutors said.

William Hanley, 21, of Pontiac, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

Damian Thomas, 23, from Pontiac and Devone Calhoun, 23, of Southfield, were each charged with assault and battery, which is a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 93 days in jail.

Prosecutors said the three men were filming a music video at a gas station when a fight broke out with a member of a rival gang.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, tried to run away from the fight, but the three men followed him, prosecutors said.

During the chase, prosecutors said Hanley fired shots at the victim, who then fired back before trying to leave again.

No one was struck and there were no injuries in the shootout, prosecutors said.

Investigators found multiple shell casings at the gas station and in a nearby neighborhood, prosecutors said.

"Pontiac residents have a right to safe neighborhoods," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "The alleged actions of these defendants were directed at the victim, but they also endangered the entire community with a gun fight. While we can be grateful no one was injured, it doesn’t make this behavior any less irresponsible and dangerous."
