Friends Help Matt Mika's Recovery With GoFundMe Page

Oakland County native Matt Mike was shot last week in an attack on GOP members at baseball diamond in Virginia.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — An Oakland County native who was shot multiple times last week in an attack on Republicans at a Virginia baseball diamond is making medical progress and expected to make a full recovery. Friends of Matt Mika have also started A GoFundMe account to help cover his medical expenses.

As of Monday afternoon, almost $24,000 has been raised, according to the GoFundMe page, which was set up by friend Michael Baker of Washington D.C. The account was created on June 16 and had an original goal of $20,000.

“Matt and his family are stunned by the outpouring of love and support,” Baker wrote in an update on GoFundMe. “In less than 24 hours, your contributions helped us surpass our initial goal! We've raised the bar to make an even bigger impact, so please continue to share. Any funds raised that exceed the needs of Matt and his family will be donated to a charity of Matt's choosing.”
