K-9 Finds Missing 76-Year-Old Woman In The Snow

Deputies say the woman was showing signs of Dementia.

DRYDEN TOWNSHIP, MI — An Oakland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 helped find a 76-year-old woman who had wandered off and been out in the freezing cold for hours, according to a press release.

The incident happened on Dec. 19. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s 911 Center reached out to the OCSO at 7:29 a.m. asking for a K-9 Unit to locate an older woman who had Dementia. She had been visiting her son at his home and was last seen at 1:00 a.m.

An OCSO K-9 Unit responded to the home in 3000 block of Dryden Rd. in Dryden Township. The OCSO K-9 handler tracked the woman from her last known location. From there, the OCSO K-9 followed the scent and found the woman lying in the snow in a neighbor's backyard.

Deputies say that the woman showed signs of severe hypothermia and exposure. She was transported to a local hospital.

The Dryden Township Police Department is conducting an investigation.
