Letter to the Editor: Vote No for Police Services Millage
"We all support the police and their renewal but with the poor economy, suffering residents simply can not afford to vote themselves a tax increase."

Dear Editor:
On Tuesday August 7, 2012, in the Ballot of the City of Rochester Hills, we are asked to vote on “Police Millage Renewal PLUS New Millage to Maintain Current Service Level.”
The very confused, misleading, wording of this proposal was crafted and approved by six members of the city council. We hear a lot about “transparency” these days but where is it in this proposal?

To simplify and make these requests clear, easier for the taxpaying voters to understand, they should have been two separate questions: a renewal AND a tax increase are two distinct issues.
There is no assurance what the increased 2.5 mills tax money could be used for.

We all support the police and their renewal but with the poor economy, suffering residents simply can not afford to vote themselves a tax increase.
It is safer to vote NO and wait for specific, honest, proposals to come forward.
Sincerely,
Ethel L. Cenkner, Rochester Hills
