Man Accused of Fighting With Pregnant Girlfriend, Meijer Worker Intervenes: Police

A man and his pregnant girlfriend got into a fight in Meijer's parking lot, sparking the woman to run into the store for help, police said.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A domestic violence incident broke out at Meijer between a man and his pregnant girlfriend, according to a police report. An intervening Meijer employee was also reportedly injured during the melee, Oakland County Sheriff's Office deputies say.

Deputies were dispatched to the Meijer Store in the 1700 block of Haggerty Rd. in Commerce Township on Jan. 29 at 6:52 p.m. Deputies say that a pregnant 19-year-old Commerce Township woman reportedly got into an argument with her 23-year-old boyfriend, also of Commerce Township, in the store parking lot. Deputies report that the woman dashed into Meijer for help, and the suspect followed her inside and allegedly attempted taking her cellphone so she couldn't call 9-1-1.

When 23-year-old Meijer employee intervened, the boyfriend allegedly punched him in the face with enough force that he fell to the ground, according to deputies. The boyfriend then fled the scene. The young woman revealed to deputies that her boyfriend just arrived in town by bus from Oregon and was allegedly under the influence of drugs, potentially crystal meth, according to the police report.
