Michigan Senior Olympic Summer Games Open Friday: Download the Schedule

While the world’s best athletes are competing at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Michiganders 50 and older will compete at all skill levels in the Michigan Senior Summer Olympic Games, to be held Aug. 12-2016, at various locations throughout southeast Michigan
Events include archery, badminton, basketball, billiards, bocce ball, bowling, cycling, dancesport, disc golf, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, powerlifting, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, triathlon and volleyball, as well as 5K and 10K race/walks.

More than 1,000 Michiganders are expected to compete in the Games, a qualifying event for the National Senior Games in Birmingham, AL, next year.

The opening torch ceremony is from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Rochester Municipal Park.
Track and field events get underway Saturday at Oakland University. More than 200 athletes have signed up, including a 101-year-old who plans to run the 50- and 100-meter dashes, as well as participate in multiple field events, including the high jump.
The Celebration of Athletes Dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, features Dr. Judy Brown Clark, a 1984 Olympic silver medalist and Sports Illustrated's 1987 Sportswoman of the Year. The dinner will be held at Steiny's Restaurant, 55161 Shelby Road, in Shelby Township.
