A 22-year veteran was killed early Thursday morning as the result of a high speed chase.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A 22-year veteran deputy of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office was killed early Thanksgiving morning as the result of a high speed chase. Deputy Eric Overall, 50, had placed “stop sticks” at the intersection of M-15 and Seymour Lake Road in Brandon Township when a 22-year-old Macomb Township man struck him, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The suspect’s vehicle rolled over after hitting the deputy. He has four prior convictions for possession of marijuana and a conviction for resisting and obstructing police, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A warrant request will presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday, reports said. Deputy Overall was not in the roadway at the time of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said.
