RARA Accused of Gender Discrimination, Mishandled Funds

Former employee alleges organization passed her up for promotion because she is a woman.

The Rochester Avon Recreation Authority is facing a lawsuit from a former employee alleging the organization would not give her a promotion because she is a woman, according to the Oakland Press.

Brandy Boyd of Rochester Hills, a RARA employee who had been fired, filed the suit in June, stating she had the qualifications for executive director of RARA, but the position instead went to a man, the report indicated. She also alleges the organization treated women differently than its male employees.

In Boyd's lawsuit, she also claims discrepancies in the handling of funds held in a trust by the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester and states the executive director had been misappropriating the foundation's money, which had been earmarked for the special needs children's group SCAMP.
