Rochester Hills To Transform Auburn Road Into Vibrant District
Auburn Road is being revamped with a "Main street spirit," city officials say.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Thanks to a near $500,000 grant, the city of Rochester Hills plans to redevelop the Auburn Road streetscape and transform it into a vibrant community, city officials announced Monday. Locals can expect upgrades like wide sidewalks, benches, bike racks, and street lighting will give the stretch between Culbertson and Dequindre a Main Street spirit.
The SEMCOG Transportation Alternatives Program recently awarded the city $481,318 to develop the area and the funding will be used as part of a nearly $10 million project that will make Auburn Road Corridor into a “unique destination,” according to the announcement.
The vision for these improvements was inspired by feedback from residents in the area. This local engagement created a multi-phase plan that enhances the identity, history, and brand of the Brooklands neighborhood.
“Our residents have provided a blueprint for a walkable, people-oriented area,” Mayor Bryan K. Barnett said in a statement. “We look forward to creating a space where people can dine, shop, and gather with friends in public spaces and we thank SEMCOG for investing in our community.”
As the area is developed, the city will continue to seek public feedback. On Aug. 16, residents are invited to join the city at the northwest corner of Auburn and Emmons to be updated on the progress and share their thoughts on the proposed streetscape features.
