'Happy Birthday, Rochester' is the theme of this year's summer reading program.
ROCHESTER, MI — With the 2016-17 school year all but over, the Rochester Hills Public Library is set to unveil its summer reading Saturday. Residents of Rochester, Rochester Hills or Oakland Township can sign up for the eight-week program. Folks that own property or work in one of the communities are also eligible.
The theme of this year’s summer program “Happy Birthday, Rochester,” which is honoring the city’s bicentennial. Participants will be asked to learn about the community via books and a series of programs. The Rochester Hills Public Library summer reading program ends on Aug. 5.
“To kick off the program, the Rochester Hills Public Library is hosting a community birthday party noon-3 p.m. June 10. The family-friendly event includes a bounce-house obstacle course, retro games from Dinosaur Hill, birthday cake, and an outdoor concert by Rich Eddy’s Rockin’ Oldies at 2 p.m. Treats and finger foods, provided by Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, will be served in the multipurpose room — which will also have displays from Rochester’s historical commissions out for viewing. No registration is required.
