Search Continues for Missing Rochester Man
Police still seeking clues into disappearance of George Vanderweit, 70, who is believed to pose a danger to himself.

Rochester Police are continuing the search for George Vanderweit, a 70-year-old Rochester man reported missing on July 5, according to Rochester Police Chief Steven J. Schettenhelm.
"We've done a number of searches actually each day been out doing some type of activity," Schettenhelm said. "We've been unable to find him and he's still missing."
Vanderweit was last seen at about 9:20 a.m. on July 5 in the area of Runyon and Dequindre. He was wearing a red shirt with the word "Bargains" emblazoned on the front and had a lime green bicycle, Schettenhelm said.
Schettenhelm said family members believe the man poses a danger to himself.
"He's had some reported mental health issues," Schettenhelm said. "In fact, he took some medications with him, so we're obviously considered about his health and welfare."
Schettenhelm said to his knowledge, Vanderweit did not have a phone, wallet or any money or credit cards with him at the time he went missing.
"All those things heighten the interest in finding him as quick as possible," Schettenhelm said.
Schettenhelm said the department has received tips about Vanderweit's possible whereabouts in the past week he's been missing, but all follow-ups thus far have turned up without results.
The department conducted a widespread search on July 6 with help from community volunteers and local police and fire personnel, and Schettenhelm said efforts will increase with additional police dog searches.
Schettenhelm said finding Vanderweit's bicycle could help crews refocus their efforts to a specific area.
Rochester Police issued the following description of Vanderweit:
