ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — If you were looking to spend Memorial Day swimming at Spencer Park in Rochester Hills, you'll have to find something else to do at the park.
Spencer Park's swimming and beach areas are closed indefinitely due to a lifeguard shortage, according to city officials.
Other amenities at the park are still open, according to city officials.

"The swimming area and beach at Spencer Park will not be opening this weekend as previously hoped," a statement from city officials said. "Our team has been working tirelessly over the last several months to hire lifeguards but were not able to onboard enough staff to open for Memorial Day weekend."
Officials hope to open the park's beach areas sometime after Memorial Day, but that depends on if they get any qualified lifeguard applicants.

The lifeguard position pays $15 an hour through the 8-week-long season. Those who make it to the end can also earn a $500 bonus. In order to be a qualified lifeguard, you must have a Red Cross certification, which takes three weeks, according to the job listing.
