St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Rated A Top Hospital Nationally

An Oakland County hospital has been named one of the top teaching hospitals in the country. St. Joseph Mercy Oakland is one of only 36 hospitals in the country to receive the award from the Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM) along with The Leapfrog Group.

“On behalf of the EAM and our members, we congratulate St. Joseph Mercy Oakland on being recognized as a Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group,” said Bret Jackson, president, EAM. “It is clear that St. Joseph Mercy Oakland has developed into not only one of the best hospitals in Michigan, but in the country. Everyone in southeast Michigan, not just NFL Quarterbacks, should look at getting their care at St. Joes.”

EAM is a nonprofit group comprised of Michigan’s largest employers and unions while the Leapfrog Group is a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve healthcare quality for consumers, employers and purchasers.

"St. Joe's has a long history of attracting and training future generations of physicians, nurses and other clinical staff," Shannon Striebich, president of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland said. "This effort ensures that the communities and patients we serve continue to have access to high quality care from smart, highly trained medical personnel."

It’s the third time St. Joseph Mercy Oakland has won the award. Along with the Pontiac hospital, three other Michigan facilities received the Top Hospital, including:

• MidMichigan Medical Center – Gladwin, Top Rural Hospital
• OSF St. Francis Hospital, Escanaba, Top Rural Hospital
• St. Joseph Mercy – Chelsea, Top General Hospital

The award is one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive in safety and quality. The winning facilities will be officially recognized at Leapfrog’s Annual Top Hospitals Ceremony Thursday in Arlington, VA.
