Third Phase of Avon Creek Restoration Gets OK From Rochester Hills
$90,000 grant to help fund third phase of restoration project.

The ongoing restoration of Avon Creek will reach its third phase, with Pontiac-based Inland Lakes Landscaping Corporation restoring about 600 feet of the creek from the Rochester Hills Drive culvert crossing to where it meets the Clinton River.
The Rochester Hills City Council awarded the company a $64,524 contract, plus a 10 percent contingency totaling $6,452.40, on Monday to improve the creek habitat and remove invasive plants from the adjacent land, replacing them with native plants better suited for the environment, similar to the project's first two phases. The cost of the project is not to exceed $70,976.40.
The city received a $90,000 grant through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services for this phase of the restoration. An additional $24,000 was spent on preliminary engineering and design, leaving the city to absorb less than $5,000 in total costs after the work is completed. Rochester Hills has received a total of $225,000 in grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services during the duration of the project.
