Your Guide to Summer in Rochester
All week long, we'll help you prepare for the long, warm days ahead. Today: here's a list of the main events you won't want to miss in June, July and August — including the Festival of the Hills.

School's almost out for summer, so it's time for Patch to help you plan your next three months.

- When: 7:30 p.m. Friday nights from June 15-July 13 and from July 27-Aug. 10
- Where: The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park
- Why go: The Velodrome is a gem of Rochester Hills. Where else can you watch Olympic-style race action, up close?
- When: 9 a.m. June 15
- Where: in Rochester Hills
- Why go: The annual 5K Run/Walk sponsored by the Rochester Hills Government Youth Council is one of the most popular runs of the summer. This year, the event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Troy.
- When: 2-7:30 p.m. June 21
- Where: All around downtown at participating merchants
- Why go: Support the downtown businesses while having fun receiving alerts, via text message, to special deals around town.
- When: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. June 21
- Where: Various homes around Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township
- Why go: Get inspired by these homes around town, sponsored by the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, along with the Rochester branch of the Woman's National Farm and Garden Association.
- When: 4-9 p.m. June 22; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. June 23, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. June 24
- Where: Third and Water streets, downtown Rochester
- Why go: It's one of the largest green/wellness events on the planet, and it features a parade, presentations, food and displays.
- When: 9 am. June 23-9 a.m. June 24
- Where: Hart Middle School
- Why go: To raise money for the American Cancer Society. However, you don't have to have cancer to attend the community event, which is family-friendly and features food and other attractions.
- When: 6 p.m. June 27 (fireworks are at 10:06 p.m.)
- Where: Borden Park
- Why go: It's billed as Michigan's second-largest fireworks show, and it's a night filled with family-friendly entertainment and games, including live music and concessions.
- When: Saturdays from June 30-Aug. 4
- Where: Downtown Farmers Market lot
- Why go: See a movie, outdoors, on the big screen, while snacking on popcorn and other concessions. of movies.
- When: noon-2 p.m. Wednesdays, July 11-Aug. 8
- Where: Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm
- Why go: Two giant slip-and-slides, a creek to explore and a fire truck spraying water: what more could you want from a summer day?
- When: July 12-14
- Where: Downtown Rochester
- Why go: See what the downtown merchants have to offer at this annual shopping event.
- When: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 11
- Where: Parking lot at W. Third and Walnut streets
- Why go: Because one person's junk is another person's treasure.
