The 2020 Woodward Dream Cruise has been canceled due to the coronavirus.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — The 2020 Woodward Dream Cruise has been canceled due to the coronavirus, municipalities hosting the event decided on Monday.

The event was slated to take place Aug. 15 in multiple communities throughout Oakland County. Municipal officials held a Zoom meeting Monday morning where they voted on how to proceed. The 2020 event would have been the Dream Cruise's 26th annual.

The event typically brings in around 1.5 million people to Oakland County annually, according to ClickOnDetroit.

Across southeast Michigan, events have been moved or canceled due to the pandemic. In Detroit, for example, an annual fireworks show has been moved to August and will take place through a virtual showing as opposed to large gatherings.

As of Sunday, there have been more than 63,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Michigan. Nearly 6,000 people have died from the virus, according to state health officials.
