5 Things to Know about Royal Oak High's New Prinicpal

Mike Van Camp began his term as the new principal of Royal Oak High School on July 1, replacing interim Principal Jim Moll. 

Approved by the Royal Oak Board of Education in May, Van Camp comes to ROHS from L’Anse Creuse Public Schools, where he was principal at L’Anse Creuse Middle School–East since 2006.

We asked the new principal what are five things we should know about him. Here is what he said.

  1. Husband and father: Van Camp has been married to wife Caroline for 25 years and is the proud father of Ben, 21, and Sam, 17.
  2. Expereinced: He has served as a building principal for the past eight years and has served 16 years as a school administrator at the secondary level.
  3. Former teacher: Van Camp taught high school social studies in Rogers City, MI and Midland, MI.
  4. Sports fan: He's coached high school golf, volleyball, basketball, and baseball.
  5. School pride: And finally, you should know he said, "I am proud to be principal of the best high school in Oakland County!"
