Amber Offers 'One-Stop Shopping' for Royal Oak's Apartment Hunters
Helping folks shop for studios, maisonettes and loft terraces is the family business for Jerome and Allen Amber.
A three-story rental complex, Amber Landing Townhouses and Lofts, is starting to take shape on Crooks Road near Normandy. When the 24 units are complete this fall, it will bring the total number of rentals Amber Properties Company has to offer to almost 1,200 units.
Helping folks shop for studios, maisonettes and loft terraces is the family business, according to Jerry Amber.
"Our company started in 1961. It was started by my late father and uncle," Amber said. "My brother Allen and I took over in the late 80s."
Graduates of Royal Oak Kimball High School, the brothers have 23 property locations in Royal Oak, Clawson, Berkley and Troy. More than half are in Royal Oak.
"We hear all the time that Royal Oak is the place to be," Amber said.
A large influx of medical professionals who do their residency in Metro Detroit and need a place to live for one to three years want to be here, Amber said.
"I love looking in our parking lots and seeing license plates from all over the country. We have residents from Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, Boston. They all want to live in the Royal Oak area," he said.
Amber said he takes pride in helping bring the city great future residents.
“They start off in one of our rentals and end up buying a house here."

Looking for an apartment, townhouse, loft or studio?
"We offer one-stop shopping for anyone looking for a rental — from the smallest to the largest, from units built in the 50s to brand new," Amber said.
High-quality units start at $625 and go up to $2,100 with amenities galore.
To find the right fit, Amber said it's important to know who a unit is for —a couple, single or family — and when it's needed.
"If you need a place to live in November, we can help you but we won't know what we'll have available," Amber said. It's best to start looking four to five weeks before you need to move in.
Budget, pets and whether to have carpet or hardwood flooring come into play, too.
Rental hunters are encouraged to visit amberapt.com to browse the variety of offerings.
