OAK PARK, MI — Police have made an arrest in what they're now calling a "targeted" killing of a popular Oakland County jeweler, who was known for his luxury custom diamonds and chains, and whose store was a popular stop among music artists.

As Royal Oak Patch previously reported, authorities said Daniel "Hutch" Hutchinson, 47, of Pleasant Ridge, was repeatedly shot as he sat in his vehicle in the 21000 block of Greenfield Road. His store, Hutch's Jewelry, is in the 23000 block of Greenfield.

Officers tried to revive Hutchinson, but he died of his injuries at a hospital, the Oak Park Department of Public Safety said in a news release obtained by Patch.

Oak Park Public Safety Lt. Marlon Benson told WJBK that Hutchinson was in an SUV with his wife when a car pulled up alongside them and someone opened fire. More than a dozen rounds flew into the SUV, fatally wounding Hutchinson. His wife was not hurt.

The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later. The person's name wasn't immediately known.

The attack was not random, Benson said.

"This was not a random event, it was targeted — as far as reasons, we don’t know why he was targeted but we don't think this was an isolated event," he told the TV station.

Patch has reached out to Oak Park Public Safety for details and will update when we hear back.

The Instagram page for Hutch's Jewelry featured large medallions and pendants, including recent custom jewelry for rappers Babytron, a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Trottadolla, of South Bend, Indiana; Hustlin Jo and Icewear Vezzo.

In an Instagram story, Icewear Vezzo, a Detroit native whose real name is Chivez Smith, wrote "Fly high HUTCH you was a real solid one."
