C-SPAN To Honor Royal Oak High Students

Students produced award-winning short documentaries.

From C-SPAN: C-SPAN is coming to Royal Oak High School Thursday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m. to recognize four students who took top honors in the national 2017 StudentCam documentary competition (Central Division). The students were asked to produce short documentaries answering the question “Your message to Washington: What is the most urgent issue for the new president and Congress to address in 2017?”

“Policing the Media”

“With the new president and Congress in office, we wanted to hear from students about public policy issues they would like addressed in 2017,” said Craig McAndrew, C-SPAN’s Manager of Education Relations. “Student Cam offers young people the opportunity to connect with lawmakers and experts and provides them with a platform to voice their opinions creatively.”

C-SPAN received 2,903 video submissions from over 5,600 students. Entries came from 46 states, as well as Washington D.C., England, Germany, Singapore and Taiwan.
