Detroit Zoo Elects 9-Year-Old Mayor of Amphibiville. Constituents leapfrogging with joy.
The new mayor has big plans to help her frog friends at the Detroit Zoo.

ROYAL OAK, MI — There's a new mayor in town and her constituents are leapfrogging with joy. 9-year-old Trinity, of Shelby Township, was sworn in as the mayor of the Detroit Zoo's Amphibiville on Nov. 9.
Ron Kagan, the Chief Executive Officer of the Detroit Zoological Society, officiated the swearing in ceremony, as Trinity Favazza solemnly placed her hand over a "Ecology Behavior of Amphibians" book and promised to protect amphibians and the environment. The former mayor of Amphibiville, who was elected as an 8-year-old and today is a 24-year-old man, also participated in the ceremony as he congratulated Favazza and passed on the keys to her new city - roughly two acres of wetlands that's home to the world-class National Amphibian Conservation Center and crawling with frogs, toads, salamanders, newts and caecilians.
The race to become mayor of Amphibiville was intense. The candidates all were between 7 and 12-years-old, Michigan residents, and had to write an essay of 100 words or less about what they could do to help amphibians. No campaigns, no debates, no donations. Just going off of your word. As for Favazza's winning words, she told Patch "I want to clean up local wetlands." She also plans on using social media to educate people about amphibians, "I want to post photos and don't want people throwing trash in the wetlands."
