Fournier Picks Up Royal Oak Police Endorsements

All three of the Royal Oak Police Department's unions are endorsing incumbent Michael Fournier.

ROYAL OAK, MI — The Royal Oak Police Department is standing squarely behind Mayor Michael Fournier’s bid for re-election. Unions representing officers, detectives and command officers have endorsed Fournier, who took over for Jim Ellison in 2016.

“It is a real honor to be endorsed by the Royal Oak Police officers,” Fournier said in a Facebook post. “Together, we’ve worked to make Royal Oak one of the safest cities in the country and our low rate of crime and high quality of life are proof of our success.”

Fournier joined the Royal Oak City Commission in 2011. He’s proud of the progress the city has made since then. “Putting residents first has made us one of the safest and most desirable places to live in America,” Fournier wrote in separate Facebook post.

Mike D. Skinner is challenging Fournier in the November election. He has a much different take on where the city stands.

“Over the past 3 months, I came to realize that my Royal Oak hometown has lost its way,” Skinner wrote, also on Facebook. “The mayor and the city commissioners have forgotten whom they represent; they ignore many interested citizens and businesses leaders in our community!

I ask for your support to ensure Royal Oak stays cool, vibrant and a great place to live and visit. If elected mayor, I will lead Royal Oak forward in “Doing Good Things Again.”

For his part, Fournier’s focus seems to be on city business. He’s planning a “telephone town hall” on Thursday at 7 p.m. He’s encouraging Royal Oak residents to call in with any questions they may have about what’s happening around town. The number is 1-888-652-0380.
