Free Document Shredding Event For Oakland County Residents

Oakland County residents​ can take advantage of free document shredding on Monday, Aug. 16 at Catalpa Oaks County Park from 9-11 a.m.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Do you have any old documents you need to safely get rid of? If so, you're in luck. Oakland County residents can take advantage of free document shredding on Monday, Aug. 16 at Catalpa Oaks County Park from 9-11 a.m.

If you can't make that date, the county will hold another shredding event Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 9-11 a.m. at Red Oaks County Park Youth Soccer Complex, which is at 29601 John R Rd., Madison Heights.

Everyone is asked to limit to three or four boxes of paper only, according to county officials. Confidential and personal documents will be shredded on site by Rapid Shred’s state-of-the-art, high-volume shredding truck. No commercial or business use.

The trucks will be in the parking lot. According to the county, there is no need for residents to leave their cars. Residents are encouraged to arrive early as there is typically a line of cars, but the line moves quickly.

Shredding old documents is one way to protect personal, confidential information and minimize ID theft.

In 2019, of the 3.2 million identity theft and fraud reports received in 2019 by the Federal Trade Commission, 1.7 million were fraud-related, about 900,000 were other consumer complaints and about 651,000 were identity theft complaints.
