Gas Prices Jump Due To Hurricane Harvey

Gas prices have gone up 12 cents from a week ago to $2.66 on average in Metro Detroit.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Not only has Hurricane Harvey devastated Texas, but it’s also causing headaches for Michigan, too. Gas prices have gone up 12 cents from a week ago to $2.66 on average, according to GasBuddy.com.

And the pain at the pump won’t stop there. While Texas refineries are busying getting back on-line, the temporary cut in production could mean gas prices in Michigan might jump to about $2.77 a gallon before leveling off, the Detroit Free Press reported.

"Every state has seen average gas prices rise," Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy told the newspaper. "Texas saw shortages at hundreds of stations. It’s been one of the most challenging weeks faced in years."
