A group seeking to pass a human right ordinance in Royal Oak is hosting a campaign kickoff event at Pronto! on Tuesday, June 25.
Mayor Jim Ellison, State Rep. Jim Townsend (D-Royal Oak) and other civic and business leaders are expected to attend, according to Allison VanKuiken, campaign manager for One Royal Oak.
Voters will decide on Nov. 5 whether or not to prohibit discrimination in employment, housing or public accommodation on the basis of a variety of factors including race, religion, weight, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV status.
"We're expecting a good turnout," VanKuiken said.
Organizers hope to solicit volunteers, generate an emali list of supporters and collect donations at the event.
"We'll also be selling T-shirts to raise money," VanKuiken said.
