Kruse and Muer on Woodward Draws Mixed Reviews

A new Royal Oak seafood restaurant draws both praise and scorn from reviewers.

ROYAL OAK, MI — After a little more than a month in business, the Kruse and Muer on Woodward restaurant seems to be striking a passion in patrons. Reviewers on the website Yelp seemed to either love or hate the restaurant, which is the site of the former Vinsetta Grill, located at 28028 Woodward Avenue.

While beef, chicken, and pizza are available, Kruse and Muer’s menu emphasizes seafood. From oysters to calamari, mussels, perch and salmon, dinners have a wide selection of seafood entrees.

The restaurant has received 21 reviews on Yelp and is thus far rated at 3.5 stars out of five. Some praised the restaurant for its food selections.

“I've been a long time fan of Kruse and Muer restaurants,” wrote Tony B of Rochester Hills in a Sept. 6 review. He gave the restaurant five stars. “This place is great because the service is outstanding as well as clean. “The salmon apricot salad is one of my favorites for a lighter meal. The pizza is one of my favorites in the area.”

“I ordered the shrimp pappardelle; spouse ordered some spicy pasta concoction,” wrote Jennifer G of Birmingham in a Sept. 6 review in which she gave the restaurant a four-star ranking. “The bread is outstanding, the drinks are good, and the food is very delicious. I was very happy with my order, and felt that I was served a good sized amount of food for the price.”

Brian H of Royal Oak had a polar opposite review of the restaurant. He gave it just one star in a Sept. 7 review.

“With all the great restaurants opening up in Detroit and around this area this place doesn't stand a chance,” he wrote. “From the minute we walked into the place it was horrible. The staff seemed complacent and non engaging. We had to ask for water, silverware, we even had to ask to order. The place wasn't busy either so none of this is an excuse. Our food was like something you would get at a low end wedding reception.”

“The food was average to forgettable,” wrote Amy L of Madison, Wisconsin in an Aug. 30 review. She gave the restaurant three stars. “I read some people raved about the bread. Really? It was a good bread but drowned in grease..On the plus side, the mussels were cooked well. But if you call it " frites" I expect something better than standard burger fries. And they got soggy on top of my mussels; a paper cone on the side I can control the experience…”
