Madison Heights Man Killed Crossing Woodward Avenue
The 37-year-old man was hit as he attempted to cross north of 13 Mile Road and later died of his injuries at Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A 37-year-old Madison Heights man died Tuesday night after being hit while attempting to cross Woodward Avenue at Ravena Avenue, according to Royal Oak Police. He was hit by a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Oakland Township woman heading southbound at about 10:15 p.m., according to reports.
The Madison Heights man was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak where he died of from his injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a Jeep, was not injured.
Royal Oak Police Sgt. Don Swiatkowski said an investigation into the accident is ongoing. Charges, if any, would be filed at its conclusion. The accident occurred north of 13 Mile Road. Swiatkowski said there was no crosswalk where the Madison Heights man was attempting to cross Woodward.

It’s the third traffic-related fatality in Royal Oak this year, he added. Swiatkowski said the department received several emergency phone calls from witnesses Tuesday night.

Southbound Woodward Avenue was shutdown while officers investigated the accident scene. The driver was determined not to be under the influence of alcohol, Royal Oak Police said in a press release.
