ROYAL OAK, MI — Walkers and runners will be coming together in Royal Oak over the weekend as the 14th Annual MOM Race for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention takes place.

Organizers say the race connects people whose lives have been touched by mental illness and suicide and those who want to help erase the stigma.

The 5K fundraiser will happen May 4 starting from Starr Jaycee Park throughout the city’s Vinsetta neighborhood.

The MOM Race is a USATF-certified 5K featuring age group awards, a team challenge competition, fundraising opportunities, plentiful refreshments, raffle prizes, live music and entertainment.

Proceeds from the 2019 MOM Race will benefit brain research at The University of Michigan Depression Center, suicide prevention programming by KnowResolve, and crisis intervention services provided by Common Ground.
