
The Royal Oak Film Society and Slamdance on the Road is pleased to announce the Michigan premiere of 2013 Slamdance Film Festival winner of Grand Jury Award Best Documentary Feature, “Bible Quiz”. The Main Art Theater in downtown Royal Oak will be the host facility for the event on Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 at 7:00pm. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Rippling Hope. The ministry of Rippling Hope plans, leads, sponsors, and helps to resource Mission Trip Projects in a variety of settings around the country. These projects are available for individuals, congregations and other organizations (colleges, businesses, fraternities, sororities, and many more organizations). The Royal Oak Film Society is, a non-profit corporation whose mission is to enrich and promote Greater Detroit’s creative culture through film, conversation, and community. The Director/Producer, Nicole Teeny of “Bible Quiz” will be at the event to do a Q&A session after the premiere.

LOGLINE: The documentary film Bible Quiz follows seventeen-year-old Mikayla as she memorizes thousands of Bible verses on her quest to win the National Bible Quiz Championship (and the heart of JP, her quiz team captain). The film explores coming of age in the midst of faith, doubt, fierce competition and teen love.

SYNOPSIS: Mikayla is just like any other normal seventeen year old girl with a crush; except unlike other girls, Mikayla has over 2,000 Bible verses memorized and that the object of her affection is her Bible Quiz team captain JP. This year JP only has eyes for the National Bible Quiz Championship. Last year he placed third nationally and now in their last year, he wants to their church to win. In order to succeed though, they must compete against thousands of other teens from across the US including their biggest rival, heavy-weight Cedar Park. Mikayla hopes that if she can lead their team to victory she will find the love she lacks in her own family and win the ultimate prize: JP’s love.
Bible Quiz challenges stereotypes and portrays an even-handed look at religion in these teen’s lives as they explore faith, identity, sexuality and competition at one of the most unique summits in evangelical America today.
