Royal Oak Has Another Downtown Development In The Works

The Henry Ford Health System is moving downtown in a lease that lasts two decades.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Henry Ford Health System is moving into downtown Royal Oak.

The nationally prominent health provider announced Wednesday it would lease the entire six-story building for the next 20 years. Henry Ford Health plans to open its high-tech outpatient center in mid-2020 and bring about 200 doctors, nurses and other health care workers to the site that formerly was a large parking lot in front of Royal Oak City Hall.

The center is to house women's health services, pediatrics, sports and rehabilitative medicine, radiology, primary care and outpatient surgery. The first floor will have a walk-in clinic, retail vision services, a pharmacy and a café, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The new center is a major expansion for Henry Ford Health. After it opens, the hospital system will close its small primary-care office at 26300 Woodward Avenue near Lincoln in Royal Oak and bring those 15 employees to the new center, a spokesman said.

Royal Oak Mayor Michael Fournier said the announcement "furthers our vision of growth for Royal Oak as we continue to show that our community is the best place to live, work, and spend time.”

“This will create immense positive economic impact in the city for years to come. We’re thankful to the Boji Group and Henry Ford Health System, as well as our committed team at the city, for their diligent work to bring this asset to Royal Oak,” Fournier said in a news release.

This is another development in the city as Royal Oak embarks on a $110-million civic center development that will also create a new city hall, police station, 581-space parking structure, and a new city park right in downtown.
