Royal Oak Restaurant Week 2017: A Trip To Flavor Town

ROYAL OAK, MI — No matter what kind of cuisine tickles your tastebuds, Royal Oak’s annual Restaurant Week is likely to satisfy your inner “foodie” starting Friday and running through March 12. From Italian to Mexican, seafood to steak, it’s an affordable feast.

More than two dozen restaurants are participating this year. Three-course lunch and dinner menus will be featured at some of the city’s top venues at $15, $25 and $35 price-points.

“Downtown Royal Oak has a diverse group of restaurants within a very small radius,” said Royal Oak Restaurant Association Vice President Jenna Derrig, who described the event as a win for all local businesses. “Anytime you can bring in a big number of people, it also helps all retailers.”

Restaurants will be showcasing regular menu items but also have the autonomy to spice their selections up.

“It really allows each restaurant to bring diversity to their own menu,” said Derrig, who is the managing partner of Mesa Tacos and Tequila. “We base everything on seasoning, not smothering. Our main focus is fresh.”

Mesa opened in June 2015. Derrig said Restaurant Week definitely created an uptick in business for her. She thinks the event is not only fun, but “a good deal, too.”
