Royal Oak Students Chant 'Build The Wall' In School Cafeteria

"Build the wall" cheers erupted in the school cafeteria during lunch at Royal Oak Middle School.

ROYAL OAK, MI Remember the days when all you had to worry about in the school cafeteria was a food fight and getting a Sloppy Joe in the face? Not in 2016 cafeterias. Things got political at the Royal Oak Middle School cafeteria Wednesday, and the whole outburst was caught on videotape and has taken off on social media, receiving more than 700,000 views in less than 24 hours.

A group of students in the lunchroom erupted in a brief albeit passionate "build the wall" chant, referencing President-elect Donald Trump's controversial campaign pledge to build a wall along America's borders. The video is a few seconds long, and school staff in the cafeteria reportedly quickly diffused the situation. However, the episode has sparked concern among many Royal Oak families fearing for their children's safety.

Royal Oak Superintendent of Schools Shawn Lewis-Lakin said in a statement, "We are working with our students to help them understand the impact of their words and actions on others in their school community. Our school district and each building in it works every day to be a welcoming community for all, inclusive and caring, where all students know they are valued, safe and supported."
