2,000 Drivers Ticketed In One Month Along M-59 In Special Operation

Officers say the bulk of the tickets were issued to speed demons and distracted drivers.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Roughly 2,000 tickets were written out along M-59 in a month-long operation, according to media reports.

Michigan State Police troopers, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies, and police from Chesterfield Township, Shelby Township, Clinton Township and Utica all joined forces and wrote more than 2,000 tickets in October to drivers on M-59. A lot of speed demons were nabbed driving more than 20 miles an hour above the speed limit, according to CBS. Other common violations were distracted driving and running red lights.

The purpose of the operation was to remind people to slow down and focus on driving - instead of driving while checking their phone or applying makeup or eating a hamburger.
