Family Gets Into Shoving Match With Cussing Man At Michigan Renaissance Festival: Police

A St. Clair Shores man was arrested by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies after allegedly assaulting three family members.

A 26-year-old St. Clair Shores man was arrested for allegedly assaulting three Michigan Renaissance Festival patrons and an Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Saturday evening. Police reports said it took a taser and several deputies to restrain and arrest the man.

The incident took place at about 6 p.m. at the festival, which is Groveland Township in Oakland County. The alleged assaults took place on the pedestrian trail connecting the north parking lot to the south parking lot, police reports stated.

The St. Clair Shores man was walking along the trail using profane language, according to witnesses. A 30-year-old Garden City man asked him to stopped and was shoved to the ground.

His wife tried to intervene, but was held by the neck and then shoved to the ground, police reports stated. The couple 7-year-old daughter was shoved into a shallow ditch by the suspect.

A Deputy was alerted to the situation by witnesses. A short time later, he made contact with the St. Clair Shores man, but was punched. The suspect then fled on foot.

The deputy ordered him to step, but the 26-year-old kept running. The deputy then tasered him and with the help of several other officers, the St. Clair Shores man was taken into custody, according to reports.

The three victims were treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics and were released. Oakland County deputies said the suspect “appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug or narcotic.”
