Lakeside Mall In Macomb County Closing This Summer For Redevelopment
Construction on the new site is expected to begin sometime in late 2025, and will take years to complete, according to officials.
STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — A once popular and thriving shopping mall in Macomb County will permanently close down this summer.
Lakeside Mall, located at 14000 Lakeside Circle at the intersection of Hall and Schoenherr roads in Sterling Heights, will permanently close down on July 1 for redevelopment.
The owners plan to demolish most of the 110-acre mall site and turn it into a mixed-use development that will include apartments, parks, a hotel, office spaces, retail outlets, dining establishments and more.

The site was originally purchased by Out of the Box Ventures, a subsidiary of Lionheart Capital, in 2019. Original plans called for turning the site into an area with food trucks and an ice skating rink, but those plans changed after the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In 2022, city officials approved a plan by the group to demolish the site and redevelop it. Last year, city officials accepted a $3 million grant from the state to buy the department stores and speed up the redevelopment process.

"Within this dynamic environment, Lakeside’s vibrant Town Center will be bustling with shops, offices, coffee houses, and restaurants, creating a lively atmosphere for residents and visitors alike," Lionheart Capital and Out of the Box Ventures said Wednesday in a press release.
"A spacious central park, featuring restaurants and outdoor seating, will serve as a focal point for community gatherings, music, art, and events. Anchoring this park, a two-story community center will provide recreational amenities such as pools, fitness facilities, and lending libraries," the group added.
