WARREN, MI — A beloved Warren bar and grill is closing down Monday after nearly 80 years.

Victory Inn, located at 12 Mile and Mound roads, is shutting down business Monday night to make way for a new Sheetz gas station.

Owner and Manager of Victory Inn Beverly Suida told the Detroit News several things contributed to the sale/closing.

"Between the Big Three bankruptcy, between the alcohol law change, the no-smoking law change, then we had the COVID. I mean it's just but one thing after another since 2008 and the COVID was probably the most treacherous thing," Suida told the outlet. "It was just a chain reaction of tough times. Harder than I ever thought imaginable."

She didn't say how much Sheetz paid for the restaurant, but alluded that it was enough for her to walk away comfortably.

"While the doors of the Victory Inn will close tomorrow, the memories, friendships, and the sense of family that we’ve built here will remain with us forever," restaurant staff said in a social media post. "This has always been more than just a place to eat or drink—it’s been a family business in every sense of the word."

Sheetz plans to demolish the building and replace it with a new gas station/convenience store that could open as soon as next year. It's part of a plan for the 24-hour Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain to open between 50 and 60 locations across southeastern Michigan over the next five to six years.
