Macomb County Will Try To Oust Spranger

A court ruling gives Macomb County officials the ability to seek Spranger's removal based on an affidavit she filed to run for office.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A court ruling will allow Macomb County to pursue ousting Clerk/Register of Deeds Karen Spranger. County officials allege that Spranger lied about her residency in filing an affidavit to run for office. St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Kelly made the ruling Friday, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

“In her lawsuit, Spranger named the county, county commissioners, Executive Mark Hackel, his office and the ethics board. The county previously applied to the attorney general's office to have the state file the action, but it was denied because it involved a local official and issues of a local nature that were best resolved at the county level.”
"The county is pleased with the court's ruling and I expect the counter-claim will be filed within the next few days." County Corporation Counsel John Schapka said today as word of the judge's opinion started to filter out this morning.
