Roseville Bar Closes For Good After Shooting Kills 1: Police

ROSEVILLE, MI — The owner of a Roseville bar permanently closed its doors after a weekend shooting left one person dead, police said.

The Dooley's Tavern on Gratiot Avenue between Masonic and 14 Mile roads will shut its doors after one of its bouncers was killed Saturday night in a shooting while trying to remove a customer from the bar, police said.

"Their decision to close has not been facilitated by any action of the Roseville Police Department or the City of Roseville," a news release said. "The ownership believes this was the appropriate thing to do considering recent events."

36-year-old Julius Bing was shot several times in the chest while trying to break up a fight in the bar and escort the unruly customers, police said. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his wounds. Another person was also shot in the bar, but didn't sustain critical wounds, police said.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help Bing's family. As of Tuesday morning, the page raised slightly over $10,000, just short of its $12,000 goal.

The accused shooter, a 25-year-old Farmington Hills man, was arrested by police and scheduled to appear in court later this week, police said.

The decision to close the bar for good came under community pressure after Bing became the second person killed in the bar within the last three years. Residents in the area started an online petition to close down the bar and gathered thousands of signatures.
