St. Clair Shores Fire Marshal Melissa Bodnar Named Fire Inspector Of The Year

Melissa Bodnar was also the first woman hired by the St. Clair Shores Fire Department in 1994 and was Firefighter Of The Year in 1999.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — St. Clair Shores Fire Marshal Melissa Bodnar was named Fire Inspector of the Year 2016 by the Oakland Macomb Fire Prevention Society at the group's meeting on Friday, Dec. 2, according to a news release.

Bodnar has had a remarkable career since joining the St. Clair Shores Fire Department in 1994 as the department's first woman hire.

Throughout the years, Bodner has climbed the ladder as firefighter/medic, driver engineer, lieutenant and fire marshal. She also earned the honor of Macomb County Firefighter of the Year in 1999 and received a Medal of Valor award for establishing a free smoke detector program for seniors and low-income residents.

Bodnar also is noted for her lifesaving work with The Great Lakes Burn Camp.
