On-Street Parking Permit Change Frustrates Resident

Earlier this year, St. Clair Shores changed the number of cars a licensed driver can store at their home. A local man may fight the change.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI β€” For the last two decades, David Miko has stored four cars at his St. Clair Shores home, including parking on-street with a city permit. Earlier this year, Police Chief Todd Woodcox dropped the number of cars a licensed driver can have on their property from four to three.

The result has been several tickets for Miko, who wonders why St. Clair Shores decided to change the rule, according to a C & G Newspapers’ report.

β€œI’ve gotten a couple of parking tickets and I’ve been to the court. The judge has dismissed a few of the tickets (and) ... encouraged me to reach out to City Council,” Miko said.
β€œWoodcox said that the city had received complaints from some residents who were storing vehicles they rarely used on their properties, causing them to require the use of overnight street parking permits to park other vehicles. Because of that, Woodcox said that this year he changed the requirements to tie the number of permits authorized to the number of licensed drivers living in the home.”
