• Sturgis girls impressive again in lop-sided win over Niles (sturgisjournal.com) — Sturgis girls basketball opened the season with another dominant home win, routing Niles 63-26 behind a 26-point night from Sydney Bir and stifling defense. The Trojans now prepare to host perennial Wolverine Conference power Otsego on Tuesday. The roundup also highlights strong performances from nearby schools including Three Rivers, White Pigeon, Centreville, Colon, and Mendon.
   

• Sandra Daugherty, 71 – WLKM Radio 95.9 FM (wlkm.com) — Family and friends in Sturgis are mourning Sandra Kay Daugherty, 71, whose grandchildren Brenden and Brooke Oldenberg live in Sturgis. A lifelong Three Rivers-area resident, she worked many years at Three Rivers Hospital and later managed a local Wendy’s. Honoring her wishes, a private family funeral and burial in Bly Cemetery in Marcellus will be held.
