Troy's Baker Middle School Has a New Principal

Meet Dr. Audra Melton, who was appointed at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.

The Troy School District announced the appointment of Dr. Audra Melton as Principal of Baker Middle School on Monday.

Melton, who has worked as the Associate Principal of International Academy East since coming to Troy in 2009, was in attendance with her family at the Board of Education meeting when the recommendation was approved.

"I like the challenge of a new environment. I think there’s a big appeal to working with middle school kids," Melton said. "I think it's a timeframe where you can really make a significant impact."

Current Baker Principal Larry Hahn has announced his intention to retire from Troy after 22 years. The district commented to Facebook users on the Troy School District Page, "we are confident we will find an excellent leader for IA East" to replace Melton.

Melton, a former graduate of Athens High, gave credit to Hahn and the Baker community during the transition period. "I think the groundwork has been laid and I think really at this point it’s just moving forward with the idea that we’re going to expect the highest performance of every student," she said.

"We want to make sure each student is reaching their own target. I think that’s my incentive."
