Band Fundraiser, Competition Scheduled at Troy Athens

Athens color guard units and their associated middle school group will perform on Sunday.

Our pick for today: Michigan Color Guard & Percussion Competition

  • When: 12 noon-8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Where: Troy Athens High School (4333 John R Rd., Troy)
  • Cost: $7 (free for children under 5)
  • Why Go: Thirty-two color guard units and thirteen percussion ensembles from across the state of Michigan will perform, including both Athens color guard units and their associated middle school group. Color guard performances begin at 12 noon. Percussion performances begin at 5:30 pm.

    Indoor color guard performances feature dance movements and spinning of flags, sabres or rifles in a visual representation of recorded music. Percussion ensembles use an array of percussive instruments, props, movement, and skill to bring music and themes to life.
