Larceny

  • A Detroit man was arrested outside of Discount Tire (1125 E. 14 Mile Rd., Troy) on Saturday and faces charges of breaking and entering. An officer noted that an unoccupied van was parked there after the store had closed, about 7:58 p.m. and went to investigate a storage locker in the back of an adjacent business. When the officer did, according to the report, he or she saw someone throw a tire out of the trailer, onto a pile of other tires. When that person saw the officer, he ran, heading east.

The officer found the man, who police said is 55 years old and has a lengthy criminal history, hiding behind a utility box in the parking lot. A representative of Discount Tire confirmed to police that the trailer had been locked when the business closed and no tires had been left outside of it. The man was charged with breaking and entering to steal between $200 and $1,000, while police were unable to locate the second suspect despite a K-9 search.
