What does your business offer? 

Castleman Eye Center is a full service opthalmology practice that specializes in diseases and surgery of the eyes. We have been in practice in the Southgate and Troy areas for over 40 years and our practice has grown, mostly through referrals from our happy patients. We are very proud of this and strive to deliver the best possible eye care to you and your family. Our patients come to us from various cities in Michigan for Lasik and cataract surgery.

What's your most popular product or service? 

In our Troy location, we have a dedicated Lasik operating suite. We own and personally oversee the maintenance of the equipment, unlike other offices that might have to transport some lasers on a daily basis.
In the Southgate office, we perform more cataract and glaucoma surgeries.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?

Castleman Surgery Center was named one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Becker's ASC Review.

When was the business founded?

The Troy office of Castleman Eye Center was founded in 1992.
The original Castleman Eye Center opened downriver in 1971, and continues to serve patients at their Southgate location.

How did your business come to be? 

Dr. Castleman started his downriver practice from scratch in 1971 and then expanded to Troy in 1992. He was tempted with offers to move to California, New York and Texas, but loved Michigan and decided to stay in the state because family ties.

Why did you choose the area you did?

Both locations were chosen because of need. The Troy location was a strategic decision. It is ideal because of its easy access to both Oakland and Macomb counties. As time evolved, refractive surgery, primarily Lasik, became a major part of opthalmology. It is an elective surgery and Troy is a great location for patients based upon the area's demographics and central location. Downriver is an industrial location with a broad spectrum of ages. That means we can treat patients with industrial injuries of the eyes as well as treat disorders of the older population including cataracts and glaucoma.
