Troy Women's Association Hosts Charity Poker Tournament
Proceeds from the tournament will help fund local charities, scholarships and classes.
This week, the Troy Women's Charitable Association is hosting its first-ever at to raise money for local charities and programs.
The association, which began as a small social organization for Troy-area women more than forty years ago, hopes to raise a significant amount of money for its many projects, programs and scholarships.
"All the money goes back to the community," Troy Women's Charitable Association member Edith Andersen said. "We like to be hands-on."

Anyone over the age of 18 may enter the tournament, which continues Thursday and Friday in the basement of the Big Beaver Tavern. Games begin at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the cost to enter is $20.
Andersen said 10 percent of the total money made will go directly to the Troy Women's Charitable Association to use in its many programs, charities and scholarships. Ten percent will go to the Big Beaver Tavern, and the remaining 80 percent of the money is given back to the tournament winners as prize money.
