Detroit Tigers' Boesch, Valverde Greet Fans at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy

The Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan event benefited the Salvation Army in Oakland County.

Detroit Tigers players Brennan Boesch and Jose Valverde stopped by in Troy on Thursday afternoon to take photos with fans and collect food donations for The Salvation Army.

As part of the , the players posed with fans both big and small while volunteers from the Salvation Army – Royal Oak Corps collected nonperishable food donations.

"I'm sure we'll have several hundred cans here," Salvation Army Maj. Monty Wandling said Thursday as he packed food into boxes at Hockeytown.

"We on average over last year saw 230 families a month. ... We do go through a lot of food, getting it out to people in need."

The food donations will benefit families in need in southern Oakland County.
