Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: Feb. 11

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media release. Note: In Michigan, the blood alcohol content legal limit is .08 percent.

• A 29-year-old Sterling Heights woman deemed responsible for rear-ending another car at the corner of Big Beaver Road and Livernois Road and fleeing the scene of the accident on Monday night was arrested by Troy police for operating while intoxicated. Police said that following the accident, at about 9:26 p.m., the woman was found by police at a strip mall on Maple Road and Livernois, which she had pulled into by running over the curb and driving over the grass. Police said that the woman had extremely slurred speech and told officers, "I am drunk!" She was breath tested at .23 percent and upon investigation, narcotic paraphernalia was found in her vehicle. She was charged with operating while intoxicated, failing to stop at an accident, no insurance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The driver whose vehicle was rear-ended did not report an injury, police added. 
• A 61-year-old Novi man deemed responsible for rear-ending another car at the corner of 14 Mile Road and Executive Drive and fleeing the scene of the accident on Monday night was arrested by Troy police for operating while intoxicated. Police said that following the accident, at about 9:39 p.m., the man smelled strongly of intoxicants, had slurred speech, glossy eyes, a flushed face and an unsteady gait. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated. A blood test was administered and results are pending. Meanwhile, the driver who was rear-ended was transported to an area hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
